Spinning Wheel

My first spinning wheel, a Saxony double drive flax wheel. I didn’t know that was what I had bought from the antique shop I found it in, but I knew I could get it working. Meant for flax spinning really, it has still been able to spin wool for me. There is something very therapeutic about the steady rhythm of tapping that treadle with my foot and moving my hands together and watching the wool I spin wind itself around the bobbin. This little piece of wooden machinery got me hooked on learning more about working with wool and producing my own yarn to weave with. I am now much more knowledgeable about how to choose a spinning wheel and love browsing websites looking at spinning wheels from all over the world – maybe one day I will buy my dream wheel.
